Climbing Stairs

Welcome,

Life is an incredible journey of experiences and learning, and we all have different perceptions about it.

My book ‘A Journey of Thoughts’ has many ideas of how we see ourselves and other people in our life and wonder what it is all about!

Some people are driven to succeed in something. They are ambitious, although early on they might not know what they are ambitious about – many are very clear in what they are here to do. Other people are content to just go with the flow. Some feel they are victims and have been dealt unlucky ‘cards’. They feel nothing of joy happens for them and they are stuck in an environment of unhappiness and are unable to step forward. Many, unfortunately have tough circumstances to deal with.

Recently I have read a lovely memoir ‘Nobu’, given to me by a good friend. It is by Nobu Matsuhisa, an acclaimed and highly influential chef- proprietor of Nobu, Matsuhisa and Ubon restaurants around the world. He had many ‘failures’ in his early career and later said ‘I DON’T THINK RACING UP THE STAIRS IS ALWAYS THE BEST WAY TO GET SOMEWHERE’.

This got me thinking and questioning what he meant.

  1. How do we define this “somewhere’ we think we need to get to?
  2. Why do we need to climb stairs?
  3. If we desire to climb stairs, we need to choose the right and best stairs we can (not rickety ones!) so we can proceed as smoothly as possible.

We can perceive this as taking steps (stairs) on ward in our life to achieve our goals and (intuitive) mission. We may take one step (stair) forward and then two steps (stairs) back – as the saying goes. Each step (stair) teaches us things as we go ‘up’ them.

It is wise to go gently and slowly – pause, reflect, consolidate, recalibrate, explore, appreciate the view where we are, with gratitude for everything we have already achieved on our journey of life- noting our disappointments, realising they have been necessary – and keep believing in ourselves and our dreams.

Intuit when (if you wish) it is time to take the next stair up. If we hurry up too many stairs too soon, we miss the learning, opportunities and wisdom each stair (step) offers us.

Perhaps some of you will be contented on the level you are and have no need to get somewhere else. Give yourself much love and enjoy the circumstances and view at this ‘landing’, knowing all is well. Perhaps you are a ‘gatekeeper’ in this location to welcome others there. This may be your perfect role.

Happy May – stay strong, resilient and loving in these uncertain times.

With love,

Merriene
